when the vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. he was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. the father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son.

about a month later, just before christmas, there was a knock at the door. a young man stood there with a large package in his hands. he said "sir, you don't

know me, but i am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. he saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the

heart and he died instantly. he often talked about you and your love for art.’’ the young man held out his package.

"i know this isn't much. i'm really not a great artist, but i think your son would have wanted you to have this." the father opened the package.

it was a portrait of his son, painted by the young man.

he stared in awe at the way the soldier had captured the personality of his son in the painting. the father was so drawn to the eyes that his own eyes swelled up

with tears. he thanks the young man and offered to pay him for the picture. "oh no, sir, i could never repay what you son did for me.

it's a gift.

”the father hung the portrait over his mantle. every time visitors came to his home he took them to see the portrait of his son before he showed them any of the other great works he had collected.

the man died a few months later. there was to be a great auction of his great works of art. many people gathered, excited over seeing the great paintings and

having an opportunity to purchase one for their collection. on the platform sat the portrait of his son. the auctioneer pounded his gavel, "we will start with this portrait of the son.

who will bid for this picture?

there was silence. then a ! voice in the back of the room shouted "we want to see the famous paintings.

skip this one."

but the auctioneer persisted, "will someone bid for this painting? who will start the bidding? 0, 0?

another voice shouted angrily, "we didn't ***e here to see this painting. we came to see the van gohs, the rembrandts. get on with the real bids".

but still the auctioneer continued, "the son! the son! who will take the son?

" finally, a voice came from the very back of the room. it was the longtime

gardener of the man and his son. "i'll give you for the painting." being a poor man, it was all he could afford.

"we have , who will bid "

"give it to him for . let's see the masters".”

" is the bid, won't someone bid ?"

the crowd was be***ing angry. they didn't want the picture of the son. they wanted the more worthy investments for their collections.

the auctioneer pounded his gavel. "going once, twice, sold for !"

a man sitting in the second row shouted, "now let's get on with the collection!

the auctioneer laid down his gavel "i'm sorry, the auction is over".”

"what about the paintings?"

"i'm sorry, when i was called to conduct this auction, i was told of a secret stipulation in the will. i was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this

time. only the painting of the son would be auctioned. whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings.

the man who took the son, gets everything!"

god gave his son 2019 years ago to die on the cruel cross. much like the auctioneer, his message today is "the son, the son, who'll take the son?" because, you see, whoever takes the son gets everything.

how to be popular

most people would like to be popular with others, but not everyone can achieve this goal. what is the secret to popularity? in fact, it is very ******.

the first step is to improve our appearance. we should always make sure that we stay in good shape and dress well. when we are healthy and well-groomed, we will not only look better but also feel better.

in addition, we should **ile and appear friendly. after all, our facial expression is an important part of our appearance. if we can do this, people will be attracted to our good looks and impressed by our confidence.

i am very glad to stand here to give thier a short my topic is that the youth are the future of motherland

so what?s my chinese dream ? finally i will announce.

we had learned a lot of knowledge and understood a lot of truth in the book. we had a basic concept to our country at that time. we know that our country is full of sunshine , and we are the future of our country, and our dreams are to be the hope of our motherland.

I Am Tripping My Elephant Here

Once upon a time, a weenie ant was walking on his way. As he was walking, suddenly he felt the ground shaking terribly. He looked around with his paranoid eyes and saw an elephant walking right behind him. Quickly, the little ant covered himself with dirt, but one leg was unfortunately left out. A sparrow saw everything, so she flew down with the purpose of teasing the ant: “Hey, chicken! Watch out your leg, it’s out!” The ant felt embarrassed at first but then calmly responded: “ Shi…I am going to trip that elephant.”

Right now, I’m standing on this glamorous stage. But everything here reminds me of is a not so fun memory. Around this time last year I was in Nanjing competing in another speech contest. That was the first time for me to be in such a large event. Of course the pressure I was under was immense too. After a sleepless and stressful night, I went onto that stage without the feeling in my legs. That speech turned out to be horrible. I don’t remember how I get down from there, but I do remember afterwards I just wanted to find a hole to hide in just like the ant in the story. Back at my school, it took a long time for me to recover. Thanks to all the help I got from my special friends. My confidence was restored. After rounds of giving speeches and answering tough questions, I am here today. From all that I’ve been through I’ve learned that a good future is based on a forgotten past, if I want my life to go on well I have to let go of my past failure. So today, with out fear, I am tripping my elephant again.

The Importance of Developing English Speaking Skills

Good morning/afternoon/evening ladies and gentlemen,

Today, I would like to talk about the importance of developing English speaking skills. English has become the lingua franca of the globalized world. It is a language that connects people from different countries and cultures, enabling them to communicate effectively and share ideas. In this fast-paced and technologically advanced era, having a good command of English speaking skills has become increasingly vital for personal and professional success.

First and foremost, speaking English fluently opens up a world of opportunities. English is the most widely spoken language in the world, with approximately 1.5 billion people speaking it either as their first or second language. By developing English speaking skills, individuals can easily connect with people from all walks of life and build meaningful relationships. It allows them to travel to different countries, work in diverse industries, and engage in global business interactions. Moreover, many international organizations and universities require a certain level of English proficiency for admission. Developing English speaking skills increases one's chances of getting accepted into prestigious institutions and landing better career opportunities.

Additionally, English has become the language of the internet. The majority of online content, such as articles, blogs, and videos, are in English. By being able to speak and understand English, individuals can access a vast amount of information and resources available online. They can broaden their knowledge, stay updated with the latest developments in various fields, and broaden their perspectives. Moreover, English proficiency provides individuals with better employment opportunities in the ever-expanding digital economy. Many jobs in the technology and online sectors require English fluency, allowing individuals to tap into the thriving job markets and advance their careers.

Furthermore, learning English as a second language has numerous cognitive benefits. Scientific research has shown that bilingual individuals tend to have better cognitive abilities, such as enhanced memory, problem-solving skills, and creative thinking. Learning English improves brain function and strengthens neural connections. It expands individuals' mental capacities, enabling them to think critically, express their ideas effectively, and expand their horizons. Moreover, by learning English, individuals gain exposure to different cultures, traditions, and ways of thinking. This cultural diversity fosters empathy, tolerance, and respect for others, creating a more interconnected and harmonious world.

However, developing English speaking skills requires dedication, practice, and patience. There are various ways individuals can improve their English, such as taking language courses, engaging in conversational practice, watching movies or TV shows in English, and reading books. It is essential to set realistic goals, practice regularly, and not be afraid to make mistakes. Learning a new language is a continuous process that requires perseverance and effort. By staying motivated and consistent, individuals can gradually enhance their English speaking skills and reap the numerous benefits that come with it.

In conclusion, developing English speaking skills is crucial in today's globalized world. The ability to speak English fluently opens up a world of opportunities, facilitates communication with people from different countries, and allows individuals to excel both personally and professionally. It provides access to a variety of online resources, broadens knowledge, and increases employment prospects. Furthermore, learning English as a second language enhances cognitive abilities, promotes cultural diversity, and fosters personal growth. So, let's embrace the importance of English speaking skills and embark on a journey to become fluent English speakers.

Thank you for your attention.
